Empowering Drone Instructors: DGCA-Certified Rotorcraft Small Class Train-the-Trainer Program

As India continues its rapid advancement in unmanned aerial systems, the need for skilled drone instructors has never been more critical. To meet this demand, the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has introduced a certified Train-the-Trainer (TTT) program under the Rotorcraft Category Small Class—a vital initiative to build a strong foundation for drone education and safety across the country.

The Train-the-Trainer (TTT) course is designed to empower experienced drone pilots and aviation professionals to become certified instructors capable of training others in the safe and effective use of rotorcraft drones under DGCA regulations.

This program specifically caters to the Small Class of Rotorcraft drones, which includes multirotor drones used for purposes like agriculture, surveillance, mapping, and logistics—typically weighing between 2 kg and 25 kg.

1. DGCA Certified Curriculum
The course strictly follows the curriculum mandated by DGCA and includes both theoretical and practical modules, with special emphasis on instructional skills.

2. Focused on Instructor Development
The goal is not just to teach how to fly drones, but how to effectively teach others to operate drones with professionalism, safety, and airmanship.

3. Real-Time Scenario Training
Trainees are exposed to real-life training environments, including pre-flight briefings, emergency procedures, flight planning, and supervised instructional flying.

4. Assessment and Evaluation Techniques
Participants learn to conduct assessments and skill evaluations using DGCA-approved checklists and performance standards.

  • Minimum education qualification – Any Degree
  • Class 3 Medical Fitness Certificate
  • Age should be above 18 years

Upon successful completion, candidates are authorized to serve as certified drone instructors in DGCA-approved Remote Pilot Training Organizations (RPTOs). With India’s drone industry expanding across agriculture, surveillance, logistics, and smart city projects, certified trainers are in high demand.
